How to eat what you want most suppers and still lower your cholesterol

By James Becher

Yes, you can eat what you want most suppers and still lower your cholesterol. How? The trick is to eat a high fiber breakfast, eat your supper in the middle of the day, and eat a high fiber fruit snack before bedtime.

Breakfast
Start your day with a high fiber breakfast. I mean a bowl of high fiber cereal and a piece of high fiber bread. You can find many high fiber cereals available at your grocers, but the trick is, if you're not used to it, you must start to build up your fiber count gradually. You can't start out with 10 or 12 grams of fiber right away or you may suffer stomach cramps. Start with a 4 or 5 gram cereal and a 3 gram piece of bread and work your way up gradually to a 10 to 13 gram cereal. Also look for the soluble fiber count as it's good to get some of your fiber as soluble. All bran buds has 3 grams of soluble fiber and I mix some of them in with my other high fiber cereal. Then also look for a high fiber bread product to go with the cereal. I find Thomas' Light English muffins to be good, as they have 8 grams of fiber.

Evening or bedtime snack
Have a late snack of fruit salad and crackers. Again the fiber count is what counts, so look for crackers with a high fiber count (whole wheat or multi-grain). Have a bowl of mixed fruit with low fat yogurt on top. Add 4 or 5 prunes and sprinkle the yogurt with a high fiber cereal. All bran buds are ideal for this, as they are small and contain 3 grams of soluble fiber.

Supper
So I said you can eat what you want most suppers. If you follow strictly these suggestions for Breakfast, and late snacks, you should be o.k., even if you eat such things as steak, rice, potatoes, etc. for supper. After all you need a certain amount of poteen. But you could throw in a salad once in a while for more fiber and also at least once a week have fish. Fish is high in omega oils which also help to reduce cholesterol. You can also get some high fiber snack bars and eat a half of one for dessert with low fat ice cream if you like.

These are my suggestions which I have found useful in lowering cholesterol.
